Indy Nelson, a world traveler from the USA, has visited every country on Earth, including multiple trips to places like North Korea. Along his journey, he navigated war-torn regions and faced suspicion, being detained four times on allegations of espionage in countries such as Iran, Libya, Papua New Guinea, and Russia.

However, it was all worth it as Indy set a world record for flying on the most unique airlines, having traveled with 170 different airlines during an 18-month global trip that began in 2017 when he was just 22. The previous record of 156 airlines was held by Japan’s Ryuji Furusho, spanning from 1996 to 2014.

Adventures, Challenges, and Record-Breaking Flights

Indy’s journey was far from ordinary. He first got the idea to visit every country after a unique spring break trip to North Korea, a place he found fascinating. After college, he took out an $80,000 loan and embarked on a global adventure. While traveling, he experienced both tourist hotspots and active conflict zones. Despite careful planning, some regions, particularly in Africa, posed challenges due to instability.

Throughout his travels, Indy faced intense situations, such as being detained for a total of 24 hours. Reflecting on these experiences, he shared that by the fourth time, it felt routine. While some countries were challenging, like the Comoros, he cherished his time in Cambodia for its welcoming locals and vibrant culture.
