Frequently Asked Questions

Applying for a record

How do I apply for a world record?

Fill in the free online application form on megarecordbook.com, our official records database. Describe your attempt, the date and the place. You will receive an application number to track your application.

Does it cost anything to apply?

No. Applying is free. Only after your application is approved do you choose a certification option. All options and their fees are shown upfront on the application page, so there are no surprise costs.

How can I track my application?

Use Track Your Application with your application number and email address. You will see the current status and the evidence you have submitted.

Attempt and evidence

What happens after I apply?

Our team checks whether the record fits a category and sends you the guidelines for your attempt. You then perform the attempt, either in front of an adjudicator or on camera, and submit the evidence.

What evidence do I need to submit?

Usually an unedited video of the full attempt, clear photographs, and signed statements from independent witnesses. Your guidelines tell you exactly what is required for your record.

Can an adjudicator attend our event?

Yes. Schools, festivals and institutions can invite an adjudicator to judge an attempt on the spot. Visit tbwr.org to request adjudication.

Certificates and verification

How can I check whether a certificate is genuine?

Every certified record has a record number. Enter it on the verification page to see the official record details.

What is the difference between a certified record and a reference record?

A certified record was applied for, reviewed and certified by The Book of World Records. Reference records in our database are researched from public sources for information only and are not certified by us.

What is the Special Recognition Award?

It honours outstanding individuals and organisations whose work deserves recognition even without a world record. Read more about the Special Recognition Award.
