NASA's Parker Solar Probe became the fastest object ever built by humans when it reached roughly 692,000 km/h (about 192 km per second) during a close pass by the Sun in late December 2024. The uncrewed probe, launched in 2018, uses repeated gravity-assist flybys of Venus to tighten its solar orbit and skim ever closer to the Sun's surface.
