A.J. Hackett and Henry van Asch opened the world's first permanent commercial bungy jumping operation at the Kawarau Gorge Suspension Bridge near Queenstown. The site, roughly 43 meters above the river, is still operating today and is widely credited with turning bungy jumping into a mainstream adventure sport.
