Home to Huascaran, Peru's tallest peak at 6,768 meters, the Cordillera Blanca is recognized as the highest mountain range located within the tropics anywhere on Earth. The range contains 33 peaks above 5,500 meters along with roughly 80 glaciers and 120 glacial lakes. Most of it lies within Huascaran National Park, a protected area of about 340,000 hectares.
