Poland hosts the largest national breeding population of white storks anywhere, with surveys counting around 52,000 breeding pairs and roughly one-quarter of the entire world population nesting there. The birds are a familiar sight on rooftops and utility poles across rural Poland each summer. Conservationists track the population through periodic national censuses.
