Reference Record – Not Certified

This record is compiled from publicly available sources for reference. It has not been examined or certified by The Book of World Records.

Adolphe Sax, born in Dinant, Belgium, in 1814, patented the saxophone in Paris in 1846 after years of experimenting with combining elements of woodwind and brass instruments. Unlike most instrument families, which evolved gradually through many hands, the saxophone is unusual in having a documented single inventor. The instrument now bears his name and remains central to jazz, classical, and popular music worldwide.
