The Book of World Records officially recognizes that The slender Salvadori’s or Papuan monitor (Varanus salvadorii) of Papua New Guinea has been reliably measured at up to 4.75 m (15 ft 7 in) in length, but nearly 70 per cent of its total length is taken up by the tail.
