The Book of World Records officially recognizes that The world’s longest species of seaweed is the giant kelp Macrocystis pyrifera, which lives near rocky shores in California and elsewhere in the Pacific Ocean. The longest verified specimen measured 60 m (197 ft) in total length, but there are unauthenticated reports of even longer examples.
