Founded in Vienna in 1565, the Spanish Riding School is the oldest institution in the world devoted to classical dressage, the highly disciplined art of training horses now recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. It is famous for training Lipizzaner stallions in maneuvers first developed for Renaissance-era cavalry. The school still performs regularly in its 18th-century riding hall in the Hofburg palace complex.
