The Guinness Book of Records was created in Britain in 1955 after Guinness Brewery managing director Sir Hugh Beaver wanted a reference book to settle pub arguments over facts and figures, commissioning twins Norris and Ross McWhirter to compile it. First published that year in London, it grew into the global Guinness World Records brand still headquartered in the UK today.
