Camera traps set by conservationists in Bhutan's high Himalayan terrain photographed wild tigers living above 4,000 meters in 2010, among the highest elevations ever recorded for the species. The discovery showed tigers using mountain habitat far higher than scientists had previously assumed possible. It reinforced Bhutan's importance as a stronghold for wild tiger conservation.
