World's Highest Unclimbed Mountain

Reference Record – Not Certified

This record is compiled from publicly available sources for reference. It has not been examined or certified by The Book of World Records.

Gangkhar Puensum stands 7,570 meters tall on the Bhutan-China border and has never been successfully climbed. Early expeditions in the 1980s failed to reach its summit, and Bhutan subsequently banned climbing above 6,000 meters in 1994 and banned all mountaineering entirely in 2003 out of respect for local spiritual beliefs. It remains recognized as the highest mountain in the world that has never been summited.
