Bhutan's constitution requires at least 60 percent of its land to remain forested, and its dense forest cover currently absorbs more carbon dioxide than the entire country emits. This makes Bhutan the only nation verified to have a negative net carbon footprint. Much of its electricity also comes from hydropower, reinforcing its low-emission profile.
