K2 sits on the Pakistan-China border in the Karakoram range of Gilgit-Baltistan and rises 8,611 meters, making it the second-tallest mountain on Earth after Everest. It is also widely regarded as the most dangerous of the world's peaks to climb, with a far higher fatality-to-summit ratio than Everest.
