As of 2021, five of the roughly ten breweries worldwide certified as "Authentic Trappist Product" by the International Trappist Association are located in Belgium: Chimay, Orval, Rochefort, Westmalle, and Westvleteren. No other country comes close to matching that concentration of officially recognized Trappist breweries. The designation requires the beer to be brewed within the walls of an active monastery under monastic supervision.
