Located within a Benedictine abbey in Salzburg, St. Peter Stiftskulinarium has documented references dating back to the year 803, making it widely regarded as the oldest restaurant still operating anywhere in Europe, if not the world. Abbey tradition even holds that Charlemagne dined there in its earliest days. The restaurant continues to serve guests today in its centuries-old vaulted dining rooms.
